Dr. Afsari was born and raised in Detroit and attended the University of Michigan for undergraduate education. He attended American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine. Dr. Afsari had post-graduate training in General Surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. His orthopaedic residency was at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed further subspecialty training in Orthopaedic trauma in Tampa, Florida at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute under the direction of Roy Sanders. He also completed an AO/ASIF International Fellowship studying complex hip and pelvic reconstruction at Inselspital, University of Bern, in Switzerland.
