Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Track
Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center has a proud history with a national and international reputation for delivering high quality rehabilitation services to patients for over 50 years. In the past it has had a broad scope of services beyond traditional rehabilitation, but over the last several years it has downsized and now has only 200 licensed beds. These beds are committed to core programs in rehabilitation, which include spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke and other neurological disorders, geriatrics, and pediatric rehabilitation.
The inpatient services are supported by a busy outpatient center which offers numerous specialty clinics such as amputation, wound care, spasticity management, post polio, pediatric neuromuscular diseases, pediatric rehabilitation and follow-up clinics for SCI, TBI and stroke. There is a center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology which provides assistive technology to patients using computers, augmentative communication and environmental control units. In addition there are special services for seating and wheelchair prescription and a world-renowned Pathokinesiology Laboratory for evaluation of human movement. Over the last few years RLANRC has been ranked by US News and World Report among the top 20 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation.
There are many full time and part time faculty based at the hospital. It is an academic center with many of the physicians currently holding faculty appointments at USC. RLANRC is a branch campus of USC, and many of the faculty are actively engaged in rehabilitation research. There are residents rotating from USC and Harbor UCLA, including residents in neurology, orthopedics (on the amputation service), and post-residency fellows in geriatrics and neurosurgery. Until June 2005, PMR residents rotated to RLANRC from the Waddsworth-UCLA program. There are up to 14 faculty at the Rancho Los Amigos Campus who are involved in the teaching program for PM&R residents. Seven of these are physiatrists.
All residents based at RLANRC are appointed through Loma Linda. They will spend two years at Rancho, where there are excellent facilities and resources for training in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.
