The Workers Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center provides:

  • Work hardening programs
  • Functional capacity evaluations
  • Ergonomic work station assesments

The WERC program helps patients after injury and prior to return to work in order to evaluate their readiness to return to normal work duties.

Evaluations may include assessment of the patient's ability to, lift, push, pull or drag, and his/her level of endurance.

A patient's employer or insurer may also request a work hardening program to help the patient to return to work.

Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

This one-time evaluation is performed by a therapist once a patient has completed their regular therapy treatment program.

An FCE can last from 2 to 6 hours. During this time the worker is evaluated doing simulations of their work.

The FCE allows the therapist to observe and score the person's ability to complete tasks related to their job.

The goal of an FCE is to provide the employer or insurer with information about the worker's ability to return to work or to make recommendations regarding a modified work environment.

Ergonomic assessments

Ergonomic assessments are designed to create a safe, comfortable, and efficient work environment for the worker.

Ergonomic assessments can be completed at our outpatient rehabilitation center.

The therapist interviews the patient and evaluates the person's work station set-up or evaluates the worker in the process of doing their job.

The therapist will then make written recommendations to the business owner regarding the work environment and potential for injury and how to minimize it.

For example, a computer keyboard with an ergonomic design can help the user avoid carpal tunnel syndrome and wrist pain.
