The measurement system we use at LLUMC rehabilitation is the FIM™ scoring system.
FIM™ stands for functional independence measurement and it is a scoring system that rates 18 activities a patient is asked to do at admission and again at discharge.
The "FIM™" is the total scoring of these 18 activities . The higher the score, the more independent the patient is able to function.
Our goal is for the patient to have a higher FIM™ score upon discharge then they did at admission, indicating that they have been able to make functional progress as a result of inpatient rehabilitation.
We measure the FIM™ scores in each of or programs of stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, general, and adolescents.
We also use benchmarking which is a comparison of our facility against the national average of other recorded facilities in the national data base.
The number of people who received care in our inpatient rehabilitation program in 2006 is listed by diagnosis below.
Statistics:
| Stroke | 127 |
| Non Traumatic Brain Injury | 63 |
