Loma Linda University Fertility and In Vitro Fertilization Center Tour

Tour the IVF facilities

Fig.1Map

The Loma Linda University Center for Fertility and IVF is located at: 11370 Anderson Street, Loma Linda California 92354. It is half way between Los Angeles and Palm Springs. The closest airport is the Ontario California airport, although international patients may use the LAX Los Angeles airport. When traveling by car, the IVF Center is about 45 minutes from the health resort of Palm Springs, one hour away from exciting Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm, about 1 and a half-hours away from Rodeo Drive in Hollywood, and five hours from Las Vegas. We are happy to welcome our patients from all parts of the world.

Fig.2Photo of campus

The Center is located on the third floor of the Faculty Medical Offices just across from the well-known Loma Linda University Medical Center. The University campus makes it a very pleasant academic place for patients, physicians, and support staff.

Fig.3Lobby

The IVF Center waiting lounge presents a comfortable atmosphere for the patients to prepare to visit with the physicians and nurses who will be looking after them during the course of the treatment. The visit is very productive and the physicians explain all the options available to the patients.

Fig.4Nurses

The fertility nursing staff and assistants are available to guide the patients throughout the treatments and procedures. They are there to answer all your questions. They will also provide training such as teaching the patients to carry out self-injections of medications with the supervision of the physicians.

Fig.5Blood test room

The phlebotomy or blood test room is located in the same Center within convenient reach of the patient. Blood draws are gently done by skilled clinical lab scientists. Blood tests to check for growth of the eggs and monitoring the hormones during pregnancy are rapidly done the same day so there is no waiting. The computer network delivers the test results rapidly to all the physicians and nurses at the Center.

Fig.6Andrology Laboratory

Analysis of the male partner's semen is done in the andrology laboratory with very rapid turn-around times. Routine semen analysis, computerized analysis as well as the specialized tests such as the 4-point male factor screen are carried out by trained clinical lab scientists. The tests help to decide between cases that truly need ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) and those that need routine procedures. Here also, sperm may be frozen for "flow-cytometry" processing to increase the odds for a girl or a boy. The laboratory is supervised by two board-certified high complexity lab directors who are also trained fertility lab inspectors for the College of American Pathologists.

Fig.7Surgical room

The day arrives when it is time to retrieve the eggs from the ovaries by transvaginal ultrasound aspiration. The surgical room is one of the finest and is located very close to the IVF laboratory. Each patient is different depending on the level of sensitivity. Our physicians and nurses are there to help and to comfort the patients throughout the egg collection procedure. The patients can go home the same day, usually in the afternoon, after resting at the Center among familiar faces.

Fig.8Embryology laboratory

The embryology laboratory is kept a little dark to keep the embryos happy. It is equipped with the latest equipment and procedures for IVF, gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), epididymal sperm aspiration, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), assisted hatching (AH), cryopreservation or freezing of the embryos, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). This is like a first class hotel for the embryos, and the laboratory is supervised by our two board-certified embryologists. The embryos are evaluated and returned back to the patients' uterus by a relatively painless procedure using a tiny plastic tube. The patients only stay for a few hours at the Center for the transfer procedure. The check for pregnancy is then done after about two weeks of resting.

We hope you enjoyed the tour of our facilities. If we can help with your needs, please call (909) 558-2851 (USA). Thank you and we wish you a wonderful day.
