Lateral Prostate Needle Biopsies Improve Cancer Detection Rates
Herbert Ruckle MD, Paul Lui MD, Christopher Tsai MD, Jonathan Bryant MD
Traditionally, sextant biopsies have been used to detect prostate cancer. It has recently been suggested that two lateral biopsies be taken from each side, since the majority of prostate cancer originates from the lateral edges of the prostate. This project is comparing cancer detection rates among patients who have undergone the traditional sextant biopsies, as compared to those who have undergone the four additional lateral biopsies.
MVAC in Organ Confined Bladder Cancer Based on p53 Status (Multi-center trail)
Herbert Ruckle MD, Michael Lilly MD, Christopher Tsai MD, Brian Yamada, MD
An NCI sponsored multi-center trial in which patients who are candidates for adjuvant chemotherapy following radical cystectomy are randomized to chemotherapy versus observation. The patients are then monitored for their p53 tumor suppressor gene status. The goal of the study is to identify a population in whom systemic adjuvant chemotherapy would improve survival. Loma Linda is participating with approximately forty other institutions worldwide. Accrual is presently ongoing.
