Provide visitation and resources to patients and families dealing with cancer.

Care Connection Van
Be the special liaison person and drive the transportation van taking patients and families from Sun City area to Loma Linda area for various medical/dental appointments or visits.
Minimum age: Adult, living in or near Sun City.
Hours: 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
The "Cheerful Encounter" Project
Your activity choices can include fund raising, making handmade items, maintaining supplies and compiling data regarding inventory and usage. This fund helps provide activities, toys, games and crafts for inpatients and outpatients. Can be "at home" project.
Minimum age: 14 years

Cards of Care
Create and assemble cheerful greeting cards to be distributed to our patients by volunteers. You can personally design and decorate the outside by drawing, coloring, or painting. Using sparkles, glued items, and puffy paints are acceptable. Please feel free to contact our office for a number of special needs and more information.

Emergency Department
Greet and interact with patients and visitors. Assist emergency department staff, stock shelves, and transport patients. Escort patients and families to other areas, run errands to other departments in hospital, pick up supplies from central service, stock supplies, and make up beds. Be effective advocate for families and support to staff.

Hours: 24/7, Sunday-Saturday
Gift Shop
Become an active member of our volunteer team assisting in the gift shop. Interact with patients, visitors, and staff while helping to raise funds to support hospital programs. Assist in this exciting environment with sales, merchandising, stocking, and gift wrapping. Good customer service is important. See Gift Shop web page.

Information Desk/Concierge/Bell Staff
Welcome and provide informational assistance to patients and visitors in the main lobby information/reception center. Assist staff with phones and computer. Help answer questions regarding Medical Center and community activities. Bilingual is helpful but not required. Good customer service is very important.

Music Connection
Music connection fosters a positive, soothing atmosphere as volunteers provide music visitations to patients at bedside. If you are musically inclined and enjoy offering your talents to others, consider participating in this uplifting program. We ask that teens and college students be enrolled in a music program either through their school or other agency.

Operation Care Package
Provide a special gift for patients post-surgery. Program includes preparing and delivering gifts.

Magazine Distribution
Make a cheerful bedside contact with patients to allow opportunity to choose magazines or a book. Socialize and sometimes read to patients.

Diversional Activities
Visit with patients and help to discern their needs for diversional activities such as crafts, needlework, reading, games, and letter writing. Our patients look forward to volunteer visits as they may not have families or visitors. Essential to the patient's recovery and well-being.

Mail and Email Delivery
Deliver patient mail or emails to the units. Our patients look forward to receiving mail, it shows that someone cares about them.

Special events occur periodically throughout the year. Your valuable time and skills can be utilized for registration and sign-in, supervision, entertainment and education, setup, and many other components. Check with us on dates for these special events:

Special Projects
Enjoy singing? Come join us in Christmas caroling to patients at Christmas time. Take delight in making people laugh? Become a clown visitor and take balloons around to the patients to help cheer them. Take pleasure from making crafts? Create handmade gifts and toys to be donated and distributed to the patients. We need innovative volunteers to assist with patient entertainment (parties, music, puppet shows, nature stories etc.) If staying out of the limelight is your cup of tea we also have occasional large mailings available throughout the year. Come show us your special talents!

Surgery Waiting Area
Provide liaison, communication, and support to families and friends of patients undergoing inpatient or outpatient surgery. Surgery waiting area is located in the main lobby of the Medical Center. Good customer service is needed.

Volunteer Services Department Receptionist
Help us sign up new volunteers. Learn the operation of the busy volunteer services offices. Assist with phones, computer work, errands, copying, faxing, filing, and receptionist duties. Also you can develop expertise as a tour guide in hospital areas. Assist with volunteer orientations.

Volunteer Services Record Management
Collect and enter volunteer daily work data and new volunteer applications on computer; generate welcome letters and address labels.
