Lactation Educator Training Program
This five-day course is designed for health-care professionals who work with pregnant and lactating women and their families. It will provide advanced information necessary to promote breastfeeding and/or interact in the breastfeeding situation by promoting, assisting, encouraging, and facilitating breastfeeding. This course promotes breastfeeding as the normal process for feeding infants. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to educate, triage, and facilitate basic breastfeeding situations to meet the needs of the infant and the family unit.
Target Audience: Perinatal, neonatal and pediatric nurses working with breastfeeding infants and their mothers and pregnant and lactating women.

Prerequisites/ Special Instructions:
Lab coats and professional liability insurance are required for clinical observations. Clinical observation experience in the lactation setting will be arranged with the instructor on the first day of class. All students need to bring a doll and a baby blanket to class. A course syllabus will be provided in class. If an additional resource is desired the following textbooks are recommended:
- La Leche League International: The Breast feeding Answer Book (revised edition) by Nancy Mohrbacher and Julie Stock
- Breastfeeding and Human Lactation (2nd edition) by Kathleen Auerbach and Jan Riordan, publisher Jones and Bartlett
- Counseling the Nursing Mother by Skinskie

Cancellation, No Show, Refund Policy:
No refund if Staff Development does not receive cancellation notification at least five (5) working days prior to class. No refund will be provided if participant does not show up for class. In the event the program is cancelled, a full refund will be given. Refundable reservation deposits will be returned upon class attendance.
