Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (Part Two): Care of the Critically Ill Infant

This three-day class is the second in a two-part series designed to familiarize nurses with the field of neonatal intensive care nursing. This class builds on the knowledge gained in Part One with a change in focus toward the needs of a critically ill infant and his or her family. Neonatal pathophysiology and nursing management will be presented for those conditions which commonly result in admission to the NICU. Topics will include: fetal to neonatal transitions, GI anomalies, respiratory disorders in the neonate, cardiac assessment and defects, blood gas interpretation, mechanical ventilation strategies in the NICU, air leak syndromes, neurological disorders including IVH, hematology, fluid and electrolyte management, and much more. An individualized preceptorship can also be arranged in our 72-bed Level III NICU as a supplement to this class and to develop hands-on experience (see Neonatal Intensive Care Internship for details).

Target Audience: New RN graduates, neonatal nurses from Level I, II, or III nurseries, and perinatal nurses

Cancellation, No Show, Refund Policy:
No refund if Staff Development does not receive cancellation notification at least five (5) working days prior to class. No refund will be provided if participant does not show up for class. In the event the program is cancelled, a full refund will be given. Refundable reservation deposits will be returned upon class attendance.
