Along with eating a balanced diet, an essential part of losing weight in a healthy manner involves practicing an appropriate exercise routine on a regular basis. At the Loma Linda University Center for Health Promotion (LLUCHP), our team of experienced specialists is dedicated to:

  • Evaluating women's nutritional, physical and medical needs
  • Conducting cutting-edge fitness testing
  • Developing patient-centered exercise regimens to help women achieve their optimal health
  • Teaching women about proper fitness and healthy living
  • Supporting women as they adopt new exercise, diet and other lifestyle habits

Personalized Fitness Testing
Our doctors and nurses will first perform a thorough physical exam to identify any possible impairments or limitations before designing an individualized exercise regimen. Possible tests and evaluations involved in this diagnostic process may include the:

  • Basal Metabolic Rate Test (BMR) – an evaluation of the number of calories a woman eats versus those she burns in a given day
  • Body Composition Assessment – an underwater weight measurement that helps our specialists determine a woman’s percentage of fat versus lean body mass
  • VO2 Maximal Fitness Stress Test – an evaluation typically performed on treadmills and / or stationary bikes of a woman’s baseline fitness and target heart rate

Depending on the results of this initial assessment process, our staff may then perform a series of more extensive tests, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Blood tests to check cholesterol levels and blood cell counts
  • Bone density tests to screen for osteopenia and osteoporosis
  • Heart and coronary artery tests to assess the strength and function of a woman's heart
  • Laparoscopy and / or colonoscopy to evaluate pelvic and gynecologic health
  • Pulmonary function tests to assess lung capacity and function

Our Exercise Programs
The comprehensive nature of our fitness testing services allows us to create individualized exercise programs that take into account a woman's physical limitations, as well as her fitness and health goals.

While exercise regimens will vary from woman to woman, in most cases, our fitness plans include but are not limited to some combination of:

  • Education on proper fitness techniques, such as stretching, warming up and cooling down
  • Personal training to help women practice appropriate exercises regularly and properly
  • Nutritional counseling to help women improve their physical capabilities
  • Regular checkups with our physicians to monitor women's health as they increase their fitness levels
