Epilepsy is a brain disorder that makes people more susceptible to having recurrent and unprovoked seizures. People with epilepsy have an increased risk of poor self-esteem and depression as well as limited independence due to physical disability. While epilepsy cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed so that patients can live full lives.

The Department of Neurology strives to provide each individual patient with the treatment and medication they need to manage their disorder. In order to do this the Department uses state-of-the-art technologies including an electroencephalogram (EEG) to detect unusual activity in the brain and diagnose seizure disorders.

Following these tests, our neurologists diagnose the type of seizure an individual patient experiences and develops an individualized treatment program that is tailored to their needs.

The Department of Neurology also collaborates with Loma Linda’s neurosurgery team to ensure that pediatric patients who require epilepsy surgery get the evaluation and care they need.
