Neuromuscular Diseases/ALS/EMG

Neuromuscular diseases are complex disorders that affect the muscles and nerves. These diseases impair the muscle function and can be debilitating. Symptoms range from muscle weakness and double vision to difficulty with breathing and swallowing. These disorders dramatically alter the quality of life of the individual and their families. Examples of neuromuscular diseases include:

•    Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
•    Muscular dystrophy
•    Myopathy
•    Neuropathy

The Department of Neurology offers integrated evaluation and treatment of neuromuscular diseases. Following a thorough neurological evaluation using cutting-edge electrodiagnostic procedures such as electromyography (EMG), our experienced neurologists create an individualized treatment plan to address a patient’s needs.

Our neurology team then works hard to help patients reduce discomfort, maintain muscle function and increase mobility to perform daily activities. While most neuromuscular disorders have no cure, our physicians and staff work hard to help individuals develop independence throughout the course of their disease.

The Department of Neurology offers diagnostic studies and evaluation procedures to accurately identify the treatment that bests suits your specific needs. Our procedures include:
