Epilepsy Surgery

Epilepsy is a disorder of the nervous system that produces unprovoked and intense bursts of electrical activity inside the brain. These episodes cause seizure that may impact a patient’s muscle control, movement, speech, vision and awareness. Individuals with epilepsy sometimes live in fear because they have repeated seizures that occur often and without warning. Many patients with epilepsy are managed with medications. However, some patients are candidate for surgery with excellent results.

The neurosurgeons at Loma Linda understand how terrifying and disruptive epilepsy can be. That’s why the Department of Neurology and the Department of Neurosurgery collaborate to offer patients multiple alternatives to manage their condition. Rather than rely solely on medication, our neurosurgeons and neurologists strive to accurately diagnose each patients’ condition before creating an individualized treatment plan that can potentially incorporate safe and effective surgical interventions designed to eliminate or at least reduce the number of seizures.

Our expert team of neurosurgeons offers consultation to thoroughly review patients’ medical histories and diagnostic data in order to carefully select patients for potential surgery.
