Cerebrovascular Surgery/Endovascular Treatment
Cerebrovascular diseases affect the blood vessels (arteries, veins, and/or capillaries) that provide circulation to the brain. Cerebrovascular disorders include strokes, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), brain aneurysms, and cavernous malformations. With surgery, many cerebrovascular disorders can be successfully treated, minimizing risks of complications such stroke and bleeding,
The cerebrovascular neurosurgeons at LLUMC specialize in the treatment and management of all forms of cerebrovascular diseases. These neurosurgeons have extensive experience with the most advanced microsurgical techniques related to this subspecialty. They also perform endovascular procedures aimed at treated many cerebrovascular conditions without open surgery.
The Department employs a collaborative approach to ensure that patients receive all the care they need. Our neurosurgeons work with other specialists including interventional radiologists, and head and neck surgeons to create individualized treatment plans for each patient.
Services
The Department of Neurosurgery’s Cerebrovascular Surgery/Endovascular Treatment subspecialty offers:
• Acute rehabilitation services
• Carotid artery stenting for carotid stenosis
• Endovascular coiling of cerebral aneurysms
• Embolization of arteriovenous malformations
• Surgery for the treatment of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), aneurysms, and cavernous malformations
Our expert team of neurosurgeons offers consultation to thoroughly review patients’ medical histories and diagnostic data in order to carefully select patients for potential surgery.
