Academics
We are committed to enhancing our training and keeping it in line with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) new push for outcomes assessment--competencies, evaluations, and quality improvement as demonstrated by the following emphases in our program:
- Board eligibility upon completion of residency training that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Approximately 75% of our graduates who take the boards passed and are certified on the first attempt.
- Individuals in our program frequently score within the 99th percentile on national testing such as the PRITE (Psychiatry Residence In Training Exam).
- Training goals include general competency in diagnosis, interviewing, case management, and team management. Clinical skills to be attained include crisis intervention and brief therapy, intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy, and family therapy. Somatic clinical skills to be learned include pharmacotherapy and electroconvulsive therapy. In addition, the clinical training includes sensitivity to integrating spirituality and psychiatry. This partial list reflects the commitment of the training program to insure comprehensive training in modern clinical psychiatry.

- Teaching-oriented faculty who are board-certified in multiple psychiatry sub-specialties.
- We offer an extensive and thorough lecture/didactics schedule, most of which are taught by faculty who are experts on their respective topic.
- Education leave (conference days): we provide paid conference leave every year. We offer monetary support for house-staff physicians who give presentations at national meetings.
