Training Sites

Our programs offer training in diverse settings that allow residents to experience academic, public, and private health care within easy commuting distance of each other.

Loma Linda University Medical Center Sites

LLU Medical Center Loma Linda University Medical Center: LLUMC is an academic, tertiary-care medical center with 647 beds and 5,000 employees. Annually, there are over 21,000 admissions and 500,000 outpatient visits. PGY1's and PGY2's do rotations in psychiatry consul and liaison at the main medical center, where they get experience working with other specialties and learning the principles of medical psychiatry.
LLU Dover Clinic Loma Linda University Behavioral Health Institute: The BHI houses the psychiatry department office as well as the psychiatry outpatient clinic, staffed by Loma Linda psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. Here residents will participate in medication management clinic, psychotherapy clinic, seminars, and weekly didactics.
LLU Community Medical Center Loma Linda University Community Medical Center: Located a few blocks east of LLUMC and adjacent to the Loma Linda Urgent Care Center, the Community Medical Center has 120 licensed beds, including it's own intensive care unit. Resident experience at this site is included in the consult and liaison rotations.
LLU Behavioral Medicine Center Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center: As the premier provider of mental health in the region, the BMC contains adult locked and voluntary units, a geriatric unit, adolescent and child units, a chemical dependency program, and day treatment programs (partial programs). Annual admissions exceed 2,400.  The adult and geriatric wards provides a large percentage of the resident inpatient experience.
LLU School of Medicine Loma Linda University School of Medicine: LLUMC serves as the major clinical teaching site for the largest medical school in the state of California. In addition to the School of Medicine that accepts 160 students each class, Loma Linda University offers degrees in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Graduate studies, and Bioethics. Residents are able to take courses at the university tuition-free if desired.

Community and Government Sites

Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center: Completed in 1977 with a total of 251 beds, the Pettis VAMC is the major teaching affiliate of LLUMC. It is located just a few blocks from LLUMC and provides primary and tertiary care to veterans of the Inland Empire. 2NE, the inpatient psychiatry ward at the VA, provides a large percentage of the resident inpatient experience.
San Bernardino BH San Bernardino County Behavioral Health: Outpatient services are provided in the clinics within the four regions (Central Valley, Desert/Mountain, East Valley, West Valley) of the County of San Bernardino.  At these clinics, clients can get behavioral health screening; help with medication and support services.  They may receive counseling, group therapy, dual diagnosis or vocational services.
Patton State Hospital Patton State Hospital: Patton State Hospital is a major forensic mental hospital operated by the California Department of Mental Health, located in in the city of Highland in San Bernardino, California. It has a licensed bed capacity of >1000 for individuals who have been committed by the judicial system for treatment. Patten provides excellent exposure to forensic psychiatry for Loma Linda residents.
