Stroke Center

A stroke occurs when blood flow to a portion of the brain is interrupted because a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. The disruption of the blood flow destroys brain cells leading to brain damage. A stroke is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.

The physicians and staff at Loma Linda University Medical Center’s (LLUMC) Stroke Center understand the importance of rapid response. The nationally-recognized Center has teams on standby to respond to stroke patients and coordinates with local emergency services to prepare for the arrival of a stroke patient so that patients get what they need – fast.

Depending on the severity and location of a stroke, an individual can lose brain function that impacts thinking, memory, speech or other vital functions. To help our patients recover from a stroke, the Center offers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and rehabilitation for stroke patients.

The Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center uses a multidisciplinary approach that taps into the expertise of a broad range of specialists to create individualized treatment plans for patients. At any given time, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists may collaborate to help a patient reduce impairment, improve physical activity and prevent the recurrence of a stroke. This patient-centric approach ensures that the Stroke Center provides every patient with personalized care and a well-coordinated, holistic treatment plan.

Ensuring an accurate diagnosis is the key to successful treatment. The Stroke Center offers diagnostic studies and evaluation procedures to accurately identify the treatment that bests suits your specific needs. Our procedures include:
