Faculty - Pedro W. Baron, MD
Pedro W. Baron, MD, joined Loma Linda University Medical Center as an Associate Professor of Surgery for the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in July 2000. Dr. Baron was born in Colombia, South America and is a graduate of the University of Antioquia School of Medicine in Medellin, Colombia. He held the position of Assistant Professor of the Department of Surgery at the University of Antioquia until 1985.
Dr. Baron came to the United States in 1985 as a visiting professor of transplant surgery at the University of Minnesota. He completed a cardiothoracic fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California in 1989. Then, he was trained in general surgery at the University of Texas medical Branch and graduated in 1995. Also, he completed an abdominal organ transplantation fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina in 2000.
Dr. Baron is a member of the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Association of the Study of Liver Diseases. In addition, he is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Baron has published numerous articles dealing with his research interests in organ preservation for transplantation, hepatitis C infection following liver transplantation and on several other topics related to abdominal organ transplantation.
