At LLUMC, the Transplantation Institute offers a fully integrated liver transplant program providing comprehensive care for patients facing the complexity of an organ transplantation. Founded in 1993, the Adult Liver Transplant Program provides comprehensive services including diagnostic testing, medical management and transplantation. The Liver Transplant Program later expanded its services in 2001 with the establishment of a pediatric division. Committed to high-quality patient-centered care, LLUMC uses a multidisciplinary approach to meet our patients’ needs at all stages of care, from initial consultation through surgery and recovery.

Program Overview

A liver transplant is a surgical procedure performed to replace a patient’s diseased liver with a healthy one from a deceased donor.

Our Approach

The Liver Transplantation Program emphasizes a multidisciplinary team approach to provide the best possible treatment. Patients are provided with comprehensive care before, during and after their transplant. Our team treats each patient as an individual, working closely with them through medical, surgical and psycho-social evaluation, educational training and financial counseling. LLUMC also strives to develop the best personalized transplant treatment program for each patient to ensure a quality and more active life.

Our Liver Transplant Team

Our multidisciplinary Liver Transplant Team comprised of surgeons, hepatologists, physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians and other healthcare specialists is committed to making our patients’ transplant a success. LLUMC’s transplant team provides support and care to every patient’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Accreditations

The Liver Transplant Program at LLUMC for adult liver patients was founded by Medi-Cal in February 1997, followed by Medicare certification in 1998. It’s also accredited by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), a national transplantation program, and was recertified in 2009 by the CMS (Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services).
