Disability insurance
State Disability Insurance (SDI) is available for eligible employees in the event of hospitalization, outpatient surgery, or illness lasting over one week. An SDI claim form must be completed and submitted to the state promptly. LLUMC requires that employees apply for SDI if a covered event occurs. In addition to SDI, residents are covered by a long-term group disability income plan provided by LLUMC. This plan provides disability benefits until age 65.
Life insurance
LLUMC provides a $100,000 group term life insurance policy.
Drayson Center
This world-class, state-of-the-art recreation complex is available to all house staff at no charge. Drayson Center earned the Facility of Merit Award in the Athletic Business Magazine in December of 1995.
Call rooms
Call rooms are available for residents who have overnight call.
Meals
Two $6.00 meal tickets are issued for each scheduled overnight on-call period. In addition, residents receive a 30 percent discount on food purchased at the LLUMC, Children's Hospital, Faculty Dinning Room, Faculty Medical Office, the Campus Cafeterias, and the Patio Pantry. Laundry
Three white laboratory coats are provided at the beginning of training and are laundered at no expense to the resident. Residents also have access to three sets of scrubs for their use through a vending machine in the main medical center. There is no provision for personal laundry.
Retirement Savings Plan
Loma Linda University participates in the Adventist HealthCare Retirement Plan (AHRP) TSA 403(b) Plan, a tax-deferred annuity analogous to a 401(k) which allows participants to defer a portion of their wages into a tax-deferred account.
Flexble Spending Account
LLUMC makes a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program available to all residents. The FSA allows residents to contribute monthly deductions of pre-tax income into a personal account, which may be used to reimburse them for certain health care and dependent care expenses.
Educational Fund
LLUMC provides for a $1000 educational fund per resident per academic year, which may be used for educational purposes (i.e. USMLE fees, medical licensing fees, books, PDA, etc.) contingent upon approval by the respective training director.
Alphanumeric 2-Way Paging
LLUMC supports a 2-way alphanumeric text paging system via the My2Way network. Residents each receive their own Motorola T9 Talkabout messaging pager, assigned campus and off-campus numbers, and assigned alphanumeric pager identifier for ease of paging. This paging system allows bi-directional message transfer and greatly increases work efficiency and ease as now information can be transmitted from one party to another without the hassle of having to call someone back to get the message.
Textbooks
LLUMC Psychiatry Department gives all new residents a free copy of the APA textbook Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry. Residents also receive free copies of many other textbooks throughout their training (i.e. Essentials of Psychopharmacology by Stahl, Synopsis of Psychiatry by Kaplan & Sadock, etc.).
